first heart transplant recipient under Arogya Karnataka Scheme
Bengaluru: Shri. B. Sriramulu, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka visited Mr. Sanju Hisamani, a 38 year old from Bagalkot, who had underwent heart transplant at Narayana Health City. The patient is the first patient in Bangalore to have undergone heart transplant under the Arogya Karnataka Scheme. The other dignitaries who were present along with the minister were Mr. Jawaid Akhtar, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare- Govt. of Karnataka, Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Commissioner, Department of Medical Education, Government of Karnataka, Mrs NT Abru, Executive Director, Arogya Karnataka Scheme, Dr. Manjunath, Medical Director, Arogya Karnataka Scheme, Dr. Varun Shetty, Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Narayana Health City, Dr. Julius Punnen, Heart & Lung Transplant Surgeon, Narayana Health City and Dr. Shashiraj S, Cardiologist- Congenital Heart Diseases, Narayana Health City.
Hailing from Bagalkot, the recipient was suffering from complex condition- congenitally corrected transposition of great arteries, severe bi-ventricular dysfunction, class IV heart failure. He was on medical management at Narayana Health City. His donor was 28 year old man from Mysuru who had succumbed to a traumatic brain injury. The transplant surgery was performed on 16thAugust, 2019 and the patient is recovering.
The heart retrieval and transplant was performed by team led by Dr. Julius Punnen, Heart & Lung Transplant Surgeon, Dr. Varun Shetty, Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Dr. Shashiraj S, Cardiologist- Congenital Heart Diseases and team of support staff of Narayana Health City.
