CONTAIN guidelines to contain PINK EYE (VIRAL CONJUNCTIVITIS)
Conjunctivitis spreads easily through contact with an infected person, touching items used by the infected person, and via coughing and sneezing. You can reduce (contain) the risk of infection or transmission by following these steps.
C – Clean
– Wash hands frequently with soap and water/sanitize
– Disinfect often-touched surfaces, such as doorknobs, countertops, and electronic items
– Maintain social distance in public places
O – Ophthalmology consultation
On experiencing severe eye pain, light sensitivity, blurred vision, or any similar symptoms accompanied with throat pain/ fever, consult an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) immediately for treatment.
N – No Prophylaxis
Don’t use Prophylactic antibiotics/steroids
T – Tear substitutes
– Use preservative-free artificial tears for relief and lubrication.
A – Avoid
– Touching or rubbing your eyes
– Sharing your personal items with others (eg. towels, washcloths, eye drops, or makeup)
– Wearing contact lenses or swimming, until the infection subsides
I – Isolation
– If infected, isolate yourself and avoid close contact with others
– Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
N – Next follow-up in 2 weeks
– Visit your ophthalmologist for a follow-up eye test two weeks after taking the treatment
