Care for neonatal babies if both parents test positive for Covid-19 is a heartfelt initiative from Ludhiana’s Deep Hospital with the ongoing Covid crisis. The Hospital will extend these new-borns 24*7 expert care in its specialised NICU facility, free of charge.
Ludhiana May 31, 2021: Ludhiana’s Deep Hospital and its founder Dr Baldeep Singh, who is a renowned Paediatrician, have announced a heartfelt initiative to help out with the ongoing Covid crisis. Under this initiative, if the parents of a newborn baby are diagnosed covid positive and the baby doesn’t show any symptoms of the infection, the hospital will take care of and nurture the infant, until the parents recover from the infection. The idea is to minimise the risk of exposure to the newborns and protect them by keeping them in Deep Hospital’s highly specialised NICU. These infants will be given expert physiological and even medical care, as necessary, during their stay at Deep Hospital while the parents recover.
This program has been announced by the hospital only for the neonates, i.e., children under 28 days given that the first month of life is the most crucial period wherein immunity levels are the lowest, making babies highly susceptible to any form of virus or infection in the air. Neonates born in any hospital in any part of the country will be covered under this special initiative. The Hospital has so far allocated 15 beds for the same.
Speaking of this, Dr Baldeep Singh, Founder, Deep Hospital said, “This is an earnest initiative on our part to support new parents who live in nuclear set-ups and have contracted Covid. Given that passing on the infection to a loved one, more so, an infant is one’s gravest concern in these circumstances, we wanted to do our bit to eliminate the added stress and anxiety for the parents of neonates. This is our way of ensuring that these parents recover well with the complete satisfaction that their newborn is in safe hands and under the expert care of professionally trained nurses who specialise in neonatal care, as well as doctors.”
For babies in normal health condition, the hospital staff specialising in neonatal care will be assigned their daily care duties. They will also ensure the nutrition of the infant is adequate, given that feeding is the most important activity for a newborn and the mother herself would not be available to nurse the baby. Along with nutrition, other aspects of child care like hygiene and temperature control will also be diligently taken care of. In case the neonatal starts showing symptoms of any illness or infection/Covid, the necessary medical intervention/treatment will be administered by the Hospital, which will be completely free of any treatment charges.
A dedicated team has been designed to take care of these newborns. This includes baby-friendly jhapas and professionally qualified highly-skilled neonatal ICU nurses with over 20 years of experience in newborn management.
