The department underwent a rigorous process of evaluation in the supervision of OSSI experts and was evaluated on various parameters such as facilities, capabilities and experience of the surgeons of the department, number of surgeries performed in stipulated timeline, infrastructure to manage special patients who are 200-300 kgs, specialized rooms, beds, cots and chair, and toilets as normal toilet would not be appropriate for patients who are heavy and so on. The unit was declared safe and as a Centre of Excellence for Bariatric and Metabolic surgery after meeting all the parameters.

Aster CMI hospital has the latest technologies in the bariatric and metabolic field and keeps upgrading the same as and when advancements keep happening. The hospital has recently upgraded its bariatric unit with the launch of robotic bariatric surgery. In India presently, there are only about seven or eight hospitals which have been conferred the status of Centre of Excellence for their bariatric and metabolic surgery units.
