FARIDABAD / March 13, 2022: Indian Cricket Legend Kapil Dev has inaugurated North India’s First Fully Active Joint Replacement Robot at Sarvodaya Hospital in Sector 8, Faridabad, in the presence of several dignitaries from the district. The former Indian Captain cut the ribbon on the Korea-made CUVIS Joints, a fully active robot system with specially developed software that makes it possible to perform Total Knee Replacement while successfully retaining the ligament (cruciate).

Said Kapil Dev, also known as the Haryana Hurricane, who was the Captain of the 1983 World Cup-Winning Team: “It is absolutely amazing to see such high-end Robotic Medical Technology in the state of Haryana. I am sure it will immensely benefit patients in the entire region who require critical surgeries such as a total knee replacement with optimum outcomes.”

Said Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Chairman, Sarvodaya Healthcare: “Innovation and technology play a crucial role in healthcare for providing better care to patients, along with improved diagnosis and precision. We are delighted to introduce North India’s First Fully Active Robot for Joint Replacement. The installation of this most advanced robotic surgical technology is a testimony to our never-ending efforts to make the best possible care available for our patients.”

“Cruciate Ligaments” refer to the two cross-shaped ligaments that exist at the front (anterior) and back (posterior) of the knee, connecting the thigh bone with the shin bone. In conventional robotic-assisted TKR surgeries, both the ligaments have to be sacrificed, due to which the patient has to live with an unnatural feeling around the knee. With CUVIS Joints Fully Active Robot, surgeons can conduct a total knee replacement without cutting the ligament. Patients can walk on their own just a few hours after the surgery.

Said Dr. Sujoy Bhattacharjee, HOD & Director, Centre for Robotic Joint Replacement, Sarvodaya Hospital, Sector 8, Faridabad: “Robot-assisted surgery has huge advantages including improved accuracy and precision of implant positioning, much less possibility of human errors or soft-tissue injuries, greater operative accuracy and reduced pain after surgery. This ensures early rehabilitation and mobilization of the patient. With this robot, we have now gone one step ahead of the world with the capability to preserve the knee ligaments of the patient in such surgeries, which was not possible till now. Preserving one or both knee ligaments in total knee replacement is crucial as it gives a natural feel to the knee and helps stabilize the joint.”
