The general theme of this edition of the DXC Bengaluru Walkathon was “Save Water, Save Life” and was flagged off by Tejasvi Surya, MP from Bengaluru South, Jayanagar MLA Soumya Reddy, Corporator Nagaraja N and Ex-Mayor of BBMP Gangambike Mallikarjun along with Mahantesh GK, Founder Managing Trustee of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled and Romi Malhotra, MD of DXC Technology the presenting sponsors.The International Day of The Persons with Disabilities commemorated with the Day of the Walkathon. The event kicked off with celebrated with pomp and gaiety with live music and dance performance by Samarthanam Sunadha, an indigenous band of persons with disabilities.
Speaking on the occasion, the effervescent Surya, claimed to be a volunteer of Samarthanam and pledged to take part in Samarthanam’s endeavours to service the society. “Bengaluru needs a viable solution to the threat of water being drained off the lives of Bengalureans. We should conserve, preserve and adopt means of recycling the water,” emphasized Surya who also announced that a National award has been instituted for the persons and organizations who are providing solutions of water conservation.
The walk aimed to create awareness on the depletion of ground water and the need to conserve water as well as to sensitize the general public on the ways to conserve water for future generations. It also dwelled on the need to ensure safe discharge of waste water and ensure recycling of grey water and promote the effective ways of water utilization at residential and organizational level.
