In reality many tutors even today have no idea on how to handle pupils with disabilities, particularly pupils with educational challenges ranging from learning deficits to behavioural disorders.
Indeed, when the tutor persist to use the rudimentary way to handle child with a learning disability in class presence typically backfires and makes the situation worse.
So, for the first time in Bengaluru, Art of Giving’s Bengaluru chapter had structured a distinctive workshop, to teach tutors to monitor students with special learning disabilities. large number of various government schools teachers attended the workshop.
Workshop thought the teachers about children with learning disabilities as a heterogeneous group. These children are a unlike group of folks, showing likely problems in various field.
The teachers were given illustrations like how a child with a learning disability may face a major reading problems, further few may have no reading problems, yet may face vital problems while writing. Learning disabilities may be mild, moderate, or severe. Pupils differ too, in their coping skills and therefore tutors have to be enduring and guarantee that the kids study with extreme care.
Shravya Narayanaswamy, an expert in the field of training said that the main goal of the workshop was to make the government tutors aware about learning disability in school children. “Tutors are thought to identify different Learning disabilities including dyslexia (reading difficulty), Dysgraphia (writing difficulty) and Dyscalculia (math difficulty). After the workshop, the tutors were happy as the realised that these learning disabilities could be treated with constant support and specifically planned curriculum.”
Another trainer Mamata N Swamy said that they had chosen only government school tutors as there was a dire need to teach them in contemporary technologies and they were also ensuing the principles of Art of Giving founder Dr Achyuta Samanta who desired to authorize the deprived people.
Kurubarahalli Government Higher Primary School headmistress Manjula KS said, “The workshop was very intuitive. Unless the teachers identify the students’ learning disabilities, they would simply categorize the pupils as a rogue who is refusing to study. These kinds of workshops aided in sharpening the tutors.
Appealingly, the tutors were also taught the significance of meditation. HC Dodde Gowda organised meditation session said, “Meditation aids to stay calm and hence tutors are thought to meditate, which will help them to stay calm and peace while handling students.”
