Yoga is essential for the Health of the mind and body
Greetings of International Yoga Day -HD Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister
Countries across the globe will celebrate the International day of Yoga on June 21.
Yoga, a spiritual discipline, focuses on achieving harmony between the body, mind and soul. Based on the ancient Indian wisdom, philosophy and tradition, Yoga helps to keep both the mind and body fresh and active in today’s competitive and stressful world.
It enlightens the spirit while eliminating the “tamas” or “darkness” in our soul.
Yoga is dear to me. My family has been practicing yoga for decades. My father and my wife too are ardent followers of yoga and practice it daily.
Swami Vivekananda said, “Through practice comes Yoga, through Yoga comes knowledge, through knowledge love, and
through love bliss.”
Yoga is essential to achieve such happiness.
Yoga is a global phenomenon and a popular mode of physical exercise across the world. Recognizing the importance of practicing Yoga, the United Nations unanimously declared June 21 as the International day of Yoga in 2015.
From its inception in 2015, this day is celebrated as Yoga Day in many countries and is instrumental in promoting the spirit of yoga around the world. Yoga day also provides a glimpse into India’s rich and ancient heritage.
In Karnataka, we have been promoting Yoga Day through multiple platforms. The attempt to establish a Guinness record in yoga every year in Mysore is one among them. Similarly, this year too various organizations have come together to set up a Guinness Record . I wish them all the best.
I hope everyone will practice Yoga every day and not just on the International Day of Yoga.
