25 year old man donates heart and saves the life of a BBMP Health Inspector

Bengaluru:  25 year old youth from Tumkur gave a new lease of life to a 58 year old heart patient by donating his heart. The transplant surgery was successfully performed at M S Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre– a unit managed by Narayana Health recently.

Hailing from Madappanahalli, Huliyurdurga village in Kunigal taluk, Tumkur, the donor had met with a road accident on 10th February 2019. He was immediately taken to a local hospital in Tumkur and then later shifted to Sparsh Hospital, Yeshwanthpur for further treatment. He was declared brain dead at 4.15 PM on 12th February 2019 and his family consented for organ donation.

The recipient is a BBMP Health Inspector and he was suffering from Severe Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (LVH) with severe diastolic Dysfunction with Biventricular assist device (ARTIFICAIL HEART).  He was on medical management at M S Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre. After a thorough evaluation by the team of cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, the patient was advised a heart transplant and had registered with Jeevasarthakate (ZCCK) 2 months ago.
