Health enthusiasts run at Kurl-on Sleepathon 2019

Initiative to sensitise importance of sleep and health ahead of World Sleep Day

Bengaluru: Sleep disorders affect a substantial number of people worldwide and may be increasing in prevalence. Unfortunately, many of these disorders can go unrecognized and untreated in clinical practice. Although the understanding that good sleep is essential to health, approaching the issue is often glossed over. Importantly, recent data also suggest that sleep disorders are becoming increasingly recognized in developing nations.

Ahead of the World Sleep Day and recognising the three pillars of health – sleep, exercise and nutrition, Kurl-on, India’s leading home comfort solution provider and mattress brand organised Sleepathon 2019, a first of its kind initiative in an effort to build and raise awareness on the importance of good sleep on health and well-being on March 10th Sunday. The initiative was flagged off by Mr. Ashutosh Vaidya, Chief Marketing Officer, Kurl-on; Dr. Pavana Rao, Clinical Psychologist – Apollo Clinics and Dr. Praveen Basagoudar, Senior Consultant Joint Replacement, Orthopaedic, Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery. 

The run was organised in two categories of 3K and 1K, with a participation of 250+ enthusiasts from various walks of life. Commenting on this initiative, Mr. Ashutosh Vaidya, Chief Marketing Officer, Kurl-on says, ’A good night’s sleep is as important as exercise, nutrition, food and lifestyle. At Kurl-on, we have taken it upon ourselves as our responsibility to spread the good word on the importance of sleep for overall health and well-being. We have made a beginning this year by bringing like-minded people together to be sleep ambassadors”. He further added, “At Kurl-on, we find synergy with the World Sleep Day, which aims to sensitize and build awareness on the importance of sleep for good health. As a responsible corporate citizen, we have taken it upon ourselves to be at the forefront of such initiatives”

Dr Pavana Rao, Clinical Psychologist, Apollo Clinics said, “Changes in lifestyle and eating habits, are taking a toll on sleep. Sleep, exercise and nutrition form the 3 pillars of health and go hand-in-hand for overall well-being. Prolonged sleep disorders, has serious and lasting implications on health with irreversible ailments. This initiative by Kurl-on is a step in the right direction to sensitize and build awareness on the importance of sleep on health”.

Dr. Praveen Basagoudar, Senior Consultant Joint Replacement, Orthopaedic, Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery said, “The harmful effects, sleep deprivation can cause, is well known to us. In the same measure, equally important is the posture of sleep, which has a direct bearing on sleep and the quality of sleep. Often times, improper sleep position causes aches and pains, more so spinal pains, which impacts sleep quality, and if not checked and corrected, triggers a chain reaction of a multitude of irreversible ailments”.
