Weizmann Institute of Science has been ranked eighth in the world for research quality.
New Delhi, November 12th, 2020: The Weizmann Institute of Science has been ranked 8th globally for research quality in a weighted (proportional) ranking organized by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) of Leiden University, the Netherlands.
The Weizmann Institute is one among 2 institutions beyond the boundaries of the U.S. in the top 10 (10th rank- Shandong University, China). In the sub-ranking for Life and Earth Sciences, the Weizmann Institute of Science has got 4th place around the globe.
Beside other scientific triumphs, the survey’s results will be displayed in the forth coming weeks at the Weizmann Institute’s 72nd Annual General Meeting of the International Board. For the 1st time, due to the COVID-19 it is held online.
The Leiden Ranking is chastely quantitative, and not based on subjective surveys. The rankings provides significant understandings into the scientific presentation of over 1000 foremost universities worldwide. The data includes various scientific publications by scientists from the different universities and research institutes, the number citations for scientific papers – representing the class of the research – as well as data about the scope of the institutions.
The present ranking specifies a noteworthy rise in the superiority of research at the Weizmann Institute of Science in current years – from 17th position a little over an era ago, to 8th position in the present ranking.

- 20% of the papers authored by Institute scientists were ranked in the top 10% for scientific impact.
- 24% of the papers authored by Institute scientists in the Life and Earth Sciences were ranked in the top 10% for scientific impact.

- 2.5% of the scientific papers by Institute scientists were in the top percentile of papers for scientific impact, and 65.8% of them were in the top half of the papers with the greatest impact.
- Between 2015-2018, scientific papers authored by Institute scientists earned 36,129 citations.
The Weizmann Institute of Science has about 300 Indian M.Sc. scholars and 380 Indian Post-doctoral fellows presently. They have recently signed a MoU with IIT – Delhi for numerous research and academic associations.
