Youth gets a new lease of life from a Brain Dead Patient

Bengaluru: 18 year old student from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh gets a new lease of life as he undergoes a heart transplant at M S Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre – a unit managed by Narayana Health. The donor who is a 27 year old youth from Tamilnadu was admitted at Victoria Hospital following an accident on 15th August 2018. Doctors at Victoria Hospital -PMSSY declared him ‘Brain Dead’ and his wife consented for organ donation.

The heart was retrieved at PMSSY (Victoria Hospital), and was transported to M S Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre, Mathikere with the help of a green corridor. The distance of 8.2kms was covered in a span of 13 minutes.

The recipient is an 18 year old student hailing from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh who was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). He was on medical management at M S Narayana Heart Centre since the last six months and later on advised to undergo a heart transplant. He registered himself with Jeevasarthakate (previously known as ZCCK) in the month of May 2018 and was awaiting for the matching donor’s heart.
