Cancer Management in Ayurveda
People gets scared of this — just by hearing its name.
Here, we have a case study – A story of a person who came out of all hurdles with the help of Ayurveda and leading a healthy life.

Cancer is abnormal cell growth in the body. It potentially spreads to other body parts which might leads to death. There are more than 100 varieties of cancer, Medulloblastoma is one among that. It is the second most frequent brain tumor in children after Pilocytic Astrocytoma. It is non-invasive speedily developing tumors, unlike most brain tumors, it feast through cerebrospinal fluid and often metastasize to other places along the surface of brain and spinal card. The treatment begins with maximum removal of tumor by surgery followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. It often has long term toxicity effects, including delays in physical and cognitive development, higher risk of secondary cancers and increased cardiac risks.

Muyyadaslam, a five-year-old boy who was enjoying his childhood in Singapore and started his schooling as normal as other kids, started to get severe headache, nausea vomiting and was rejecting food. As other parents his parents also thought that it might be common headache or indigestion, but one day they felt it is something more than common and rushed to hospital. Doctor immediately suggested MRI. And found a large mass lesion within the fourth ventricle, producing obstructive Hypercephalous and Transependymal transudation of cerebrospinal fluid and he has Medulloblastoma. The parents were in shock to hear about the report even though they couldn’t understand the medical terminals, but they understood that their son has brain cancer. He had to undergo the surgery procedure called “Posterior Fossa Craniotomy and Excision of tumor with EVD Insertion” in one of the best Singapore hospital.

The struggle didn’t end here the little boy got mutism, left side paralyzed. With god grace he started speaking after 2 months of surgery and almost recovered his speech and paralysis but he still has some coordination and balance issues. The remnant tumor was cured through radiotherapy and chemotherapy. In this journey, he had to undergo for 30 radiation therapy to brain and Spine. After all these hectic procedures, he had to take thyroid hormone for lifespan because his thyroid gland stopped functioning and after the surgery his growth was hindered because of non-production of growth hormone in the body.

Keen monitoring of changes in the boy, the endocrinologist suggested external thyroid hormone and growth hormone injections. Parents started his thyroid treatment and didn’t agree with growth hormone injections. Doctors told that by taking growth hormone injections the boy might get Muscle aches, joint discomfort, headaches, swelling of hands and feet and at the end there is 70% chance of secondary cancer. Parents were not ready to take a chance.
